Budget 2027: Tax the Super Rich

On Tuesday 6th October, the Irish Government will announce Budget 2027. With families across Ireland struggling under soaring rents, the cost of living and a deepening housing crisis, Budget 2027 is a crucial moment to demand a fairer tax system, one that asks more of the wealthiest in Ireland.
 

Inequality is growing fast

• In the space of just a single working day, the average Irish billionaire will make the equivalent of an average person’s entire annual income.
• Ireland’s 11 billionaires are wealthier than 3.5 million Irish people combined.

This concentration of wealth didn’t happen overnight. Over years, fortunes have accumulated at the very top while our tax system has failed to keep pace with a changing economy. That’s why we’re calling for the introduction of a Net Wealth Tax targeted at the top 1% of wealth holders.

We need immediate action to tackle this inequality and Budget 2027 is a crucial moment. It’s an announcement of the Government’s plan on how much money it will collect, and it will spend in the next year.
