Budget 2027: Email to TDs

Draft Letter to TDs – Tax the Super Rich – Budget 2027

Subject Line – Please support the introduction of a Net Wealth Tax on the top 1% in Budget 2027

Dear Deputy (last name),

I am a constituent in (your town / constituency) and I am writing to you to support the introduction of a Net Wealth Tax on the top 1% as part of Budget 2027. This could be a significant step in addressing wealth inequality in Ireland.

(you can tailor this part of the email if you would like to make it more personal to your own experience)

Families across Ireland are struggling with the cost of living, soaring rents and a deepening housing crisis while extreme wealth continues to grow at the top. Ireland’s 11 billionaires are wealthier than 3.5 million Irish people combined, and in the space of a single working day the average Irish billionaire makes the equivalent of an averages person’s entire annual income.

Ireland can take a bold step and follow the example of countries like Spain, Norway and Switzerland by introducing a wealth tax on the super-rich.

Introducing a Net Wealth Tax targeted at the wealthiest 1% would help generate revenue and address wealth inequality. A modest 1% tax on the net wealth of the top 1% in Ireland could raise €1 billion every single year for the Irish exchequer. This revenue could be used to relieve cost-of-living pressures, invest in housing and public services, and make our tax system fairer.

Will you commit to supporting the introduction of a Net Wealth Tax in Budget 2027?

Yours sincerely,
