Cork : Global Justice Lunchtime Sessions

Want to take the first steps in understanding global justice issues and explore how you can make a difference in your community?

INEQUALITY. CLIMATE. GAZA. COMMUNITY.

Join us in Cork city this October/November to explore global justice issues over some lunch and a group discussion.

You’ll connect with like-minded people who are curious to go deeper into global issues. You’ll learn from inspiring speakers as well as hearing directly from communities around the world that Oxfam works with.

There’ll be lunch, and tea and coffee, while you learn, interact and take your first steps towards becoming a changemaker!

Where: Nano Nagle Place, Douglas Street, Cork City, T12 X70A
When: These short lunchtime sessions will kick off each Wednesday at 1:10pm and finish by 1:50pm each week.

Week 1 : Wednesday 21st October, 1pm

How can I be a Global Citizen?

What does it mean to be a Global Citizen? How can I become a Changemaker?
What is Global Citizenship Education? What does it mean to my daily life?

You’ll hear from: Oxfam’s Itofa Ivarah is an educator and an expert in Global Citizenship Education. Itofa will lead a group discussion with lots of interaction and reflection.

Week 2 : Wednesday 28th October, 1pm

Understanding Global Inequality

Economic inequality globally. Gender inequality. 
Who is on the margins? Why is the world the way it is?

You’ll hear from: Oxfam’s Bríd McGrath has over 20 years’ experience working in global justice campaigns and within government. She’ll bring her insights, experience and passion as she leads a discussion on how we can all fight inequality.

Week 3: Wednesday 4th November, 1pm

Is the Climate Crisis an Inequality Crisis?

How does the Climate crisis affect people around the world?
How does Climate change cause conflict? What is climate justice?

You’ll hear from: Oxfam’s Campaign Manager Garry Walsh will give an eyewitness report from his visits to countries like Rwanda and Kenya that are on the frontlines of the Climate Crisis and we’ll discuss what actions we can all take for climate justice.

Week 4: Wednesday 11th November, 1pm

Genocide in Gaza : Hear from on the ground

How has the Gaza genocide impacted people living in Gaza?
How have women been impacted? What can we do in Ireland in solidarity with Gaza?

You’ll hear from: Fidaa Al-Araj is a survivor of the Gaza genocide (so far) and gender justice officer for Oxfam in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes - if you’re interested and curious in learning more about why our world is the way it is and you feel like you’d like to contribute towards making a difference. You don’t need to be an expert, this is all about short sessions for you to learn, inform, discuss and connect with others. 

No – you can dip in and out, and just register for individual sessions that suit you. However, if you attend all of the sessions, you’ll get much more out of it. 

No – lunch will be provided, as long as you’ve registered beforehand with us. 

These are short, bite-sized sessions. They begin at 1:10pm and finish by 1:50pm, usually with 20 minutes from a speaker and 20 minutes for discussion.

There will be more opportunities to stay engaged with Oxfam's ‘Global Education Movement’. There will be online webinars and more events and campaigns to engage with. 

No – these sessions are open to all to attend! If you are also a volunteer with Oxfam, we’re very excited to have you join us, and deepen your knowledge on global issues.

No – these sessions are in person only. They’re an opportunity to meet and interact in person. Keep an eye on the Oxfam website for webinars in future to engage with online.
