Uganda faces several socio-cultural, economic, and political challenges that perpetuate high levels of poverty and inequality. These challenges limit the participation of vulnerable groups, particularly women, youth, and pastoralists, in decision-making processes that affect their lives. They also limit their access to opportunities and resources, ability to participate and have a voice in decisions that affect them, which makes them more vulnerable to risks, shocks, and other vulnerabilities.
Oxfam started working in Uganda in the 1960s. Over the years, we have implemented both development and humanitarian programs to support practical and innovative ways for people to lift themselves out of poverty.
Our vision is for Uganda to be free of extreme inequality and injustice; a society where citizens, particularly women across all age groups, claim and exercise their rights and responsibilities and can influence decisions that affect their lives.
We work with grassroots, local, and national partners across various districts, driving change through influencing and campaigns. Our work has a national reach, creating a lasting impact.
