Yemen: Devastating Floods Hit Aden
Severe flooding leaves neighbourhoods underwater and families at risk
In August 2025, devastating floods swept through parts of Aden in South Yemen, causing widespread destruction and putting thousands of lives at risk. On 19 August, heavy flooding hit the neighbourhoods of Al-Qaluaa, Al-Tawahi and Al-Maala. Just days later, on Saturday 23 August, further flooding struck Al-Huswa and Bir Ahmad, compounding the damage.
Streets were transformed into fast-flowing rivers as floodwaters surged through homes and businesses, destroying property and forcing residents to struggle for safety. The scale of the devastation has overwhelmed local communities already facing severe challenges.
Local authorities have officially declared the affected areas disaster zones, citing extensive damage and serious danger to residents. As floodwaters recede, families are left facing loss, displacement, and an urgent need for support.
