Menstruation in a Tent

World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Gaza

This World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we share the story of Mervat and her daughter, who, like thousands of women and girls in Gaza, experience their periods while living in a tent, without access to clean water, privacy, or sanitary pads.

Since the beginning of Israel’s destructive war on Gaza, access to basic hygiene has collapsed. What should be a normal, manageable part of life has become a daily crisis. For many women and girls, managing their menstrual cycle now means facing pain, shame, and risk in conditions that strip away privacy and dignity.

Despite these challenges, our partner, the Culture & Free Thought Association (CFTA), continues to stand with women and girls. Through safe spaces, awareness sessions, and the distribution of menstrual supplies, they are helping women like Mervat and her daughter protect their health and dignity, even in the most difficult circumstances.
