Their Courage. Your Kindness.

Every day, local people are helping their communities overcome conflict, climate change and other challenges that threaten lives and livelihoods.

In Gaza, Dr Taghreed brings lifesaving healthcare to pregnant women and new mothers despite immense danger and personal loss.

In Zambia, Angela Chiyala is helping families withstand drought and hunger by sharing climate-smart farming techniques across her community.

Though facing different challenges, they share the same determination: to build a better future.

When crisis strikes, local people are often the first to respond. But they cannot do it alone.

Your donation can help provide local changemakers with the resources and support they need to reach more people and strengthen their communities.

Please give generously today. Their courage is changing lives. Your kindness can help more communities thrive.

Dr Taghreed, Healthcare worker in Gaza

Dr Taghreed is braving Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, as she navigates the overcrowded camps and devastated streets of the strip to bring life-saving healthcare to pregnant women and new mothers who cannot safely reach medical help.

With her she takes medical supplies and simple equipment as well as a baby bag with clothes and essential items for a newborn. And she also carries the memory of the baby she tragically lost at the start of the war.

This is courage in action. And Dr Taghreed is the kind of changemaker you can get behind by supporting Oxfam Ireland with a gift today.

Dr Taghreed is determined to pursue her mission to make things better for her community. Despite the fact that maternity services lie in ruins. Despite the personal tragedy of losing her own baby.

But while she has courage and skill, she still needs our help. She still needs compassionate people like you to step up with a gift. A gift that becomes essential supplies. Supplies that become a safer start for the next newborn baby.

Along with our local partners, Juzoor, Oxfam is supporting a range of sexual and reproductive health services in Gaza. We are supporting people like Dr Taghreed as she finds new ways of keeping women, babies, and fragile hope alive, while laying the foundations for wider healthcare services to be rebuilt.

Angela Chiyala, Teaching climate adoption techniques in Zambia

Whenever a crisis hits - through conflict, climate change or natural disaster- it’s local people who reach those in need first, and community owned actions are often best placed to make a lasting difference.

Take Angela Chiyala, a farmer from southern Zambia, where prolonged dry spells and pest infestations are increasingly laying waste to crops and livestock.

As a mother of four, Angela knows the fear that comes with a failing harvest. But rather than giving in to despair, she enrolled at one of over 30 Farmer Field Schools, supported through Oxfam’s partnership with Nutri Aid Trust and Women for Change.

From here, Angela was selected for intensive training in climate-smart agriculture – farming methods which can help protect communities from food insecurity and hunger caused by the devastating impacts of climate change.

Today, Angela leads a group of 40 people, not just teaching them how to grow climate resistant crops but also inspiring others to be agents of change in their own communities.

The power of one person to make a difference is clear. But behind every local leader there is a network of people like you, who will also not give up in the face of a crisis but stand in solidarity with those best placed to solve it.

Will you send a gift today to back courageous leaders like Dr Taghreed, Angela Chiya, and so many others on the frontline of crises whose bravery serves us all.
