Oxfam Ireland Post Graduate Certificate in Global Citizenship Education Scholarship
Oxfam Ireland is pleased to offer a scholarship opportunity for the Postgraduate Certificate in Global Citizenship Education (GCE) at Maynooth University. This scholarship aims to support individual(s) who demonstrate a strong commitment to global justice, active citizenship, equality, sustainability, and transformative education. The scholarship seeks to strengthen the capacity of educators, community practitioners, volunteers, youth workers, and development professionals to contribute meaningfully to Global Citizenship Education (GCE) in Ireland and beyond.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are responsible for applying separately to Maynooth University and meeting all admission requirements. The award of a scholarship does not constitute admission to the Postgraduate Certificate programme.
Applicants must:
- Be resident in Ireland or have the right to study in Ireland.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to Global Citizenship Education, social justice, human rights, climate justice, anti-racism, gender equality, sustainable development, or related fields.
- Show how the programme will contribute to their personal, professional, or community development.
- Be willing to act as an ambassador for Global Citizenship Education (GCE) within their organisation, school, community, or network.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Curriculum Vitae
A current CV (maximum 2 pages) outlining:
- Educational background
- Professional experience
- Volunteer experience
- Relevant skills and achievements
- Any previous involvement in Global Citizenship Education or related fields
- Personal Statement (Maximum 500 words)
Applicants should address the following in their personal statement:
- Why they wish to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Global Citizenship Education.
- Their interest and experience in Global Citizenship Education or related areas.
- How they intend to apply the learning from the programme in their work, volunteering, or community engagement.
- How the scholarship would support their personal and professional development.
- Their commitment to promoting global justice and social change.
- Selection Criteria
Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Selection Process
Applicants will be selected through the following process:
- Applicants must apply directly to Maynooth University and get an offer of placement
- Applications will be reviewed after the closing date.
- Eligible applications will be assessed independently by the Scholarship Award Panel.
- The panel may invite shortlisted applicants for a short online interview if required.
- The scholarship recipient(s) will be notified directly by email.
- The panel's decision will be final.

The Scholarship Award Panel will consist of:
- Brid McGrath – Director of Public Affairs, Oxfam Ireland
- Itofa Ivarah – Global Citizenship Education Officer, Oxfam Ireland
- Dr. Aoife Titley - Lecturer in Development and Intercultural Education (DICE) in the Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education at Maynooth University.
- Dr. Aideen Elliott - Senior Policy & Research Coordinator, Oxfam Ireland.
- Expectations from Scholarship Recipient
Scholarship recipients will be expected to:
- Successfully enrol and participate in the Postgraduate Certificate programme.
- Attend all required modules and learning activities.
- Provide a short reflection or learning report upon completion of the programme.
- Participate in at least one Oxfam Ireland knowledge-sharing or learning event following completion of the course.
