Mapping Your Solidarity
Take a look at a few inspiring stories of the change you’ve made possible.
Indonesia
In East Flores, Indonesia, unpredictable tropical weather has long made life difficult for coconut farmers. Many families rely on copra, the dried flesh of coconuts, as a vital source of income.
But drying coconuts outdoors can be a constant struggle. Farmers must race against sudden downpours, protect their harvests from animals, and rely on exhausting smoke-drying methods that can also put their health at risk.
Today, thanks to supporters like you and our local partner YPPS, things are changing.
The community now has a solar-powered drying house that reduces coconut processing time from weeks to just days. It helps protect farmers’ health, keeps precious harvests safe, and reduces the demanding workload involved in producing copra.
But the benefits don’t stop there. Farmers are also learning to transform coconut waste into eco-friendly charcoal briquettes, creating an additional source of income.
For farmers like Elisabeth, this training is bringing greater security and independence, as well as strengthening the sense of community as she says: “We love that no matter if it's tough or easy, the group members, men and women, we do it all together and make it feel easy.”
MOZAMBIQUE
Many families are still living in temporary camps, with only the most basic shelter and limited access to clean water and essential hygiene supplies.
Since the flooding, we have been working alongside local communities to provide vital support and hygiene kits.
These hygiene kits help prevent the spread of deadly diseases like cholera in crowded conditions and include bath buckets, jars for water purification, soap, washing detergent, and heavy-duty containers for transporting clean water.
Thank you for helping give people access to life-saving necessities in times of crisis.
Chad
In Chad, conflict and extreme climate shocks have forced hundreds of thousands of families to flee their homes with nothing.
Mothers like Kaka Abacar Issa in isolated regions like Daboua face displacement without food or shelter.
Partnering with Oxfam and local expert organisations, your support has installed water boreholes giving the community access to clean water and restoring dignity. This immediate care has completely transformed daily survival for families providing a lifeline when everything else was lost.
Cash transfers during the lean season are empowering families to purchase necessities and strengthen local markets. In support of long-term food security, farmers are being supplied with climate resilient seeds and agricultural tools.
The impact of your support is clear. As Kaka herself says: “Oxfam has saved us from famine, and we are truly grateful to them.”
Thank you for supporting communities during critical times like these. You can keep the change going and Donate Now.
