While we are disappointed with the outcome, the spark of hope at COP30 came from people power in local communities: Indigenous leaders, women land defenders, and civil society groups demanding justice.
In reaction to the outcome of COP30, Oxfam Ireland CEO Jim Clarken said:
"While we are disappointed with the outcome, the spark of hope at COP30 came from people power in local communities: Indigenous leaders, women land defenders, and civil society groups demanding justice. Governments may falter, but these voices remind us that climate justice is possible if we act now. Oxfam Ireland will keep pressing for real action despite most rich nations refusing to provide crucial adaptation finance.
"Ireland cannot stand on the sidelines. Tackling the imbalance between those struggling to heat their homes and those polluters with the highest emissions and investments in fossil fuel industries isn’t about personal virtue: it’s about systemic change. We need bold policies that make the richest polluters pay and ensure a just transition for all."
