Oxfam Ireland launches emergency appeal to support Venezuela following major earthquakes

Oxfam Ireland's Emergency Appeal aims to support humanitarian workers on the ground in Venezuela.

Two major earthquakes have struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, leaving at least 188 people dead and 1,520 injured. There is severe property damage, disruptions to basic services, and emergency teams have been deployed to the affected areas.

This event compounds an already severe humanitarian crisis: as of early 2026, an estimated 7.9 million people in Venezuela were in need of humanitarian assistance. The current situation could further worsen the living conditions of thousands of people.

Our partners – local organisations working directly on the ground – are conducting initial assessments to determine the extent of the damage and the most urgent needs of the affected communities.

At Oxfam, we will activate our solidarity mechanisms to support the humanitarian response, in coordination with our local partners and in accordance with our operational capacities. We reaffirm our commitment to supporting the most affected populations, prioritising relevant, timely, and community-centred actions.

Oxfam Ireland is launching an Emergency Appeal to support rescue workers on the ground.
