First-hand experience of Gaza genocide survivor at Holywood event – Oxfam Ireland
Attendees will hear first-hand about life in Gaza City and how the “ceasefire” in the besieged part of the Occupied Palestinian Territories exists in name only.
Oxfam Ireland continues its series of workshops as part of the organisation's new Global Education Movement, taking place in Redburn Community Centre, Holywood on Wednesday, 22nd April at 7pm. Running for four weeks, this second workshop focuses on the ongoing genocide in Gaza and what the future may hold for Palestinians.
Attendees will hear from Fidaa Al-Araj, Gender Justice Officer for Oxfam in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
"Fidaa Al-Araj's first-hand testimony of living in Gaza is truly harrowing. Fidaa paints a picture of daily life we haven't heard before, allowing us to imagine how we ourselves might survive such an ongoing tragedy. She speaks to the reality of the 'ceasefire' and tells us all how we might act in solidarity to help Gazans in a very uncertain future.”— Bríd McGrath, Director of Public Affairs in Oxfam Ireland who interviews Fidaa, said.
Dr Brendan Browne will help relate her experience to Northern Ireland and international justice. The Belfast-based speaker is a Professor for Conflict Resolution in Trinity College Dublin, and an award-winning academic, teacher and researcher on conflict and global justice.
Event details:
Wednesday, 22 April at 7pm in Redburn Community Centre, Holywood. All welcome.
This workshop is part of a series of Global Education Movement (GEM) workshops in Northern Ireland. GEM is supported by Irish Aid and is a programme designed to link local community experience with the global challenges shaping our world.
At a time when emergencies and crises are increasingly felt in everyday life - from conflict to climate change - GEM aims to strengthen Global Citizenship Education (GCE) across Northern Ireland. Empowering people to understand systemic inequality at home and abroad allows for meaningful action to be taken within their own communities.
