Why should you join the National Climate Demonstration?

Excitement is building for the upcoming National Climate Demonstration, which takes place on Saturday, 15 November starting at the Garden of Remembrance, Dublin at 1pm.

Oxfam Ireland are a member of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition, and we are working together with other organisations to build support for the largest climate demonstration Ireland has seen in years. We are urging people to join thousands of others across Ireland for a powerful demonstration that will call for an end to the era of fossil fuels. Together, we’ll show that people across the country demand bold leadership in the fight against climate breakdown.

On 15 November all around the world, people will flood the streets of capitals to demand an end to the era of fossil fuels. COP30 in Brazil must be a turning point - 10 years on since Paris, our leaders have to act. We will take to the streets of Dublin in our thousands to march in solidarity, and demand faster and fairer climate action from our government.

Hear from our Oxfam Ireland Youth Ambassador Aimée Kielt on why you should join us for the demonstration.

Ambassador Aimée Kielt at a climate march in Dublin

“As I prepare to join the Global Climate Strike on the 15 November, I reflect on the urgent need for action in response to the climate crisis. Through studying the climate, it's become alarmingly clear that we must act now, or the costs of inaction will only rise alongside the consequences for future generations.

“We have been aware of the climate crisis for half a century, and fortunately, solutions are available. It’s now a matter of having the courage to make changes today that can prevent the disastrous outcomes we’ve been warned about.

“You might wonder, why should I get involved? Well, attending the climate strike isn’t just about showing up; it’s an opportunity to raise awareness among our governments and communities about these critical issues. When we unite in numbers, we amplify our voices, making it harder for policymakers to ignore us.

“This year is particularly exciting because so many different non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are participating in the Global Climate Strike. This creates significant momentum behind the movement and provides opportunities for continued impact long after the event itself. Action doesn’t have to stop once the strike is over. Engaging with local organisations and volunteering can keep the momentum going and help drive real change in our communities.”

What can you do to get involved?

  1. Put the date in your diary and attend the National Climate Demonstration. Tell your friends and family! (If you are unable to attend, that’s okay you can still spread the word).
  2. Join the Stop Climate Chaos Whatsapp Channel to get more updates about the march (this is an updates only channel, you won’t be flooded with messages).
  3. Share on social media – link here.

It has never been more crucial to take action on climate change to stop climate chaos. Renewable energy is cleaner, cheaper, and safer than fossil fuels, yet we remain locked into dirty, expensive fossil energy, thanks to the power and influence of the fossil fuel industry.

That’s why we need to join together, stand up and speak out, demanding that the Government deliver faster and fairer climate action. It needs to be fast enough to do Ireland’s fair share internationally and fair enough to make life better for people here and now.
