Oxfam Ireland Superstore in Holywood shortlisted for major UK charity shop award

Winners of the UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Awards will be decided by a public vote.

The Oxfam Ireland Superstore in Holywood, Co. Down, is in the running to be crowned the UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Awards for the Northern Ireland region, with the public deciding the winner.

The awards, run by the Charity Retail Association, are now in their second year and celebrate the impact of charity shops in their local communities. For many these stores are more than a place to pick up a second-hand bargain; they are community hubs that employ local people, help volunteers find connection, and offer support to vital causes.

More than 5,000 nominations were received this year. As part of the process, members of the public were asked to share why they were nominating their favourite shop.

When asked what makes the Oxfam Ireland Superstore special, our supporters said:

“It's a fantastic, welcoming shop filled with happy people offering a brilliant selection of goods of all types displayed in an amazing way. It's a pleasure to shop there!”

“The focus on sustainability and highlighting second hand in support of a circular economy. Vintage items are amazing value. There are also some really good community links.”

This nomination, because it comes from members of the public, really means a lot. Our consumers have got behind the Superstore and Oxfam’s mission to support a circular economy and cut back on waste while fostering a sense of community in Holywood. We couldn’t be happier to be shortlisted for this award, and we hope our journey only goes upwards.
— Trevor Anderson, Director of Trading at Oxfam Ireland.

Robin Osterley OBE, Chief Executive of the Charity Retail Association, said:

“Congratulations to all the shops that made the shortlist and thank you to everyone who made a nomination. The level of support the Awards continue to inspire highlights just how much charity shops mean to their local communities. We are now calling on the public to cast their votes and decide which shops will be crowned winners in 12 areas across the UK.”

People can vote for their favourite shop now. Voting closes at midnight on 2 October. To see all the shortlisted shops and for more details about the Awards, click here.
