Climate demonstration to call for ending fossil fuel greed and inequality

This Saturday, 15th November, The Stop Climate Chaos coalition will assemble at 1pm at Parnell Square, Dublin, for the largest climate demonstration in years.

The richest individuals and corporations are driving the crisis while reaping record profits, but communities are fighting back at the ballot box and on the streets.

This Saturday, thousands of people across the country will join the National Climate Demonstration uniting with a worldwide day of action to end the era of fossil fuels.

The fossil fuel-based economy drives environmental destruction, displacement, and social inequality while shielding major polluters from accountability.

The Dublin demonstration is organised by the Stop Climate Chaos coalition - which includes over 30 civil society organisations such as Friends of the Earth, Oxfam Ireland, Trócaire, and AMLÉ - and is supported by trade unions, student groups, and local community organisations.

2024 was confirmed as the hottest year on record. The window for meaningful action is rapidly closing. Repeated IPCC reports have made clear that anything beyond 1.5°C poses catastrophic risks to human life, ecosystems, and economic stability.

Throughout the world, communities are demanding faster and fairer climate action. With COP30 underway in Brazil, civil society groups and members of the public are calling time on corporate greed driving the climate crisis.

There can be no climate justice without tackling social inequality

Ten years on from the Paris Agreement, COP30 must be the turning point where world leaders finally end fossil fuel expansion and deliver real economic justice for communities already living with the devastating impacts of climate breakdown.

“The richest individuals and corporations are driving the crisis while reaping record profits, but communities are fighting back at the ballot box and on the streets. We demand bold political choices that rebalance emissions and fund a fair transition. Super-rich polluters, not ordinary members of the public who cannot afford to pay their bills, must pay for the damage they’ve caused.”
— Oxfam Ireland Campaigns Coordinator, Sinéad Roche

We call on the Irish Government to deliver faster and fairer climate action: fast enough to meet Ireland’s international responsibilities, and fair enough to make life better for everyone here and now. The moment for empty promises is over.

A global pushback against billionaire and polluter greed

There is a growing movement to challenge the influence of billionaires and fossil fuel corporations blocking progress. From new windfall taxes to crackdowns on private jet emissions, people are demanding that the wealthiest polluters pay their fair share.

The Stop Climate Chaos coalition says Ireland must reject new gas terminals, phase out fossil fuel subsidies, and end investments in destructive industries. This includes everything from gas-fired data centres to financial institutions backing fossil expansion. The continued use of Shannon Airport by the US military – one of the world’s most damaging major polluters – must be reconsidered by the Irish state.

The National Climate Demonstration will assemble at 1pm on Saturday, 15 November, beginning at Parnell Square, Dublin. Join us in fighting for a sustainable future for all.
