Global Education Movement
Oxfam Ireland’s Global Education Movement (GEM) is a new Global Citizenship Education (GCE) initiative that brings learning about global justice directly into communities across the island of Ireland. Launched with the support of Irish Aid, GEM uses Oxfam Ireland’s unique network of 45 community-based shops as inclusive spaces for learning, dialogue and action.
GEM places volunteers at the core of the programme, recognising their daily engagement with the public and their strong motivation to understand and communicate Oxfam’s work. It also opens participation to the wider public in the communities where Oxfam shops are located, helping to build local leadership and "multipliers for change."
What’s Inside the GEM Experience
Through interactive workshops, self-paced online modules, scholarship opportunities and the Gaisce bronze award; GEM equips individuals with practical knowledge and motivation to tackle pressing global challenges such as gender justice, climate responsibility, migration, and economic inequality.
