The European Union believes Israeli settlements illegally built on occupied Palestinian land are a key obstacle to peace and stability. Despite this, the EU allows trade with these illegal settlements, the profits from which only deepen poverty and violations of Palestinian’s rights every day.

International Humanitarian Law is clear that an Occupying Power (in this case Israel) must not allow its own population onto the land it occupies. The law also prohibits confiscation of land to build or expand settlements.
For decades, the state of Israel has been flagrantly ignoring these laws, driving Palestinians off their occupied land to make way for illegal settlements.

The EU and Member States are complicit
While the EU’s position on illegal Israeli settlements is clear, it still allows its citizens to purchase products that are manufactured in settlements that only sustain the legitimization and expansion of Israel’s settlement policy.
As long as this happens the rise in illegal settlements and the fueling of human rights violations against Palestinians will continue with complete impunity.
