Leaving a mark with an Oxfam legacy

“I really feel strongly about leaving something to people who’ll never know who I am, but they’ll know someone, somewhere was bothered about them,”
— Nicky, who included Oxfam in her Will.

We all want to leave our mark on the world in some way. What better way to do this than to support the fight to end inequality, poverty and injustice?

September is Oxfam’s Legacy Month and Nicky’s story is an inspiring one. She has left money in her Will to help people to experience the life-changing effects of our work. They will not know who she is, but they will know that someone cares. What a selfless and powerful parting gift to give the world.

“What I’m trying to do, I think is make the best use of the small amount I have to give,” notes Nicky.

Nicky is an activist who is passionate about women’s rights. She volunteered as a teacher in East Africa and was also a teacher trainer in various countries.

“We’ve known for a long time that if you support a woman there’s a knock-on to a whole community for generations after that,” she continues.

“It’s a small village business that brings money into that woman’s home and sends her kids to school. Those kids then get to be a teacher or have their own business or a Prime Minister, or whatever. What bigger gift could you give really?” Nicky notes.
