Seed mats are basically paper cotton sheets impregnated with seeds of various varieties. They can be cut to fit any pot and are simply placed between two layers of compost and watered regularly. They are ideal for children and those who find normal sowing too fiddly.

Seeds for Change
You can buy seeds for the following flowering plants in our shops.
Sweet Pea - Fragrant Mixed
A top quality mixture of modern climbing varieties boasting a strong fragrance and large blooms in a range of stunning colours.
Why buy? Sweet peas are excellent in the garden but even better displayed in a simple vase where their scent can fill the house

- Sow October to January indoors, or March to April outdoors

Sunflower - Russian Giant
A giant among annuals. Plants up to 3m (10ft) tall have huge yellow flowers of up to 30 cm (12in) across.
Why buy? Very easy for children to grow, suitable for bedding and borders, plus birds enjoy the tasty seeds!

- Prefers a well-drained soil in full sun
- Flowers mid/late summer to autumn
Cornflower 'Blue Diadem'
Attractive large double, powder-puff blue flowers are produced throughout the summer.
Why buy: A real all-rounder. Ideal for borders, pots and containers, and works wonderfully as a table centrepiece.

Nigella Damascena 'Persian Jewels Mixed'
A beautiful and easy-to-grow hardy annual with attractive fennel-like foliage. A mixture of mauve, lavender, purple, rose, white and blue.
Why buy? Its resilient nature makes Nigella an excellent choice for junior or less-experienced outdoor gardeners
Great in bedding
seed pods can be dried for winter decoration indoors. Flowers summer. Height 38 cm (15 in).

Seed Mats
Gardening is made easy with Oxfamgarden's seed mats.
Each seed mat is a biodegradable tissue mat 9 x 12 inches, pre-sown with annual and perennial flowers.
Just prepare the ground (either a bed or container), roll out the mat and cover lightly with growing medium. Water and watch your flowers grow!
You will get one each of three different types:
- Wildflower Garden Seed Mat
- Herb Garden Seed Mat
- Wildflower Garden Seed Mat containing a special mix to attract butterflies and garden birds into the garden.
