Oxfam Ireland Biofuels update here!

Dear Supporter,

We're writing to say thank you for taking action and adding your voice to our call to halt the burning of food in fuel tanks in advance of the recent European Parliament votes on biofuels.

MEPs told us that they had more contact on this matter than on anything else in recent years, so your involvement really made a difference.

The result of the votes was disappointing. Although the European Parliament did support a cap on the use of food for fuel, it's far above current levels of consumption. Entirely preventable hunger and environmental devastation will continue. You can read more here.

On the positive side we got good support from most, but not all, of the Irish MEPs. You can check how your MEPs voted on the key vote to adopt a cap here and contact them with your reaction to their vote (contact details here).

This biofuels campaign is far from over. It's being discussed by environment and energy ministers at European Council meetings and that will then feed into negotiations with the Parliament.

Oxfam and our allies will continue to call to stop food being burned in our fuel tanks and we hope we can count on your support in the future.

Thanks again,
Oxfam Campaigns Team
