The lives you’ll change

By purchasing this Heroes gift, you’re helping women like Josephine Nishimwe (pictured) to share her farming skills with others and lift her community out of poverty.

Josephine lives high up the steep slopes of Nyamirambo, one of the poorest suburbs of Rwanda’s capital city Kigali.

Growing mushrooms herself for around two years, she is a confident, patient woman skilled at empowering other women to become entrepreneurs as part of the Oxfam-supported Abanyarukundo Co-operative.

“I got involved with community awareness work after I had had training,” says Josephine.

“I knew it was a very good crop which can really help families and I use it for my children and myself… Before I used to think that being an entrepreneur meant someone who was very rich but now I understand I am among those entrepreneurs.

It means someone who can make a decision, someone who has the vision to do something, to think and get benefits from what they are doing.”
