The world produces more than enough food for everyone, yet every night 870 million people – more than the population of Europe, the US and Canada – go to bed hungry. Something is very wrong with this picture.
Food and oil prices, climate change, unfair trade and land grabs are contributing to a system of food production and distribution that is dominated by a few powerful governments and companies.
We need a new way of thinking and ideas that hold a promise of a better future for the many, not just the few.
GROW is a global movement where we find better ways to grow, share and live together.
Key to this is supporting the empowerment of women.
Women produce 70% of the world’s food crops. Yet they only receive 5% of the agricultural training and tools available to men and own just 1% of the land.
As part of the GROW approach, our Ending Poverty Starts with Women campaign demands greater government support for projects that help female farmers stand up for their land rights, access equal opportunities to improve their farming methods and make the decisions that benefit the community as a whole.
By adding your voice to the campaign, women food producers stand a better chance of tackling poverty.
It starts here. Be a part of it.
