Volunteering Overseas
Oxfam Ireland works to enable people to help themselves. It is our policy to work with local partner organisations and as a result, we do not send volunteers abroad. However, there are other organisations that would welcome your support.

Before you apply
Before applying to be a volunteer you should consider the following:
- Why do you want to volunteer?
- What type of voluntary work would you like (and dislike!) to do?
- What skills, experience or enthusiasm can you offer? Most projects ask for people with particular skills or experience.
- How much time you can give? Length of time is a critical factor as projects vary from short-term placements of a few weeks to longer-term projects of two years or more.
- Other practicalities, such as where and when you want to volunteer.
Applications to do overseas voluntary work should be made well in advance, and you should consider the travelling costs involved as you will most likely have to fund your own travel expenses. Furthermore it is important to check whether the project provides for other expenses such as accommodation, food and pocket money.
Thanks again for your interest in volunteering with Oxfam Ireland and your on-going support of our work. Good luck in your search for overseas volunteering opportunities!
