Trek Kilimanjaro: 19,000ft – 12 day trek – 10 people
The Challenges … Climbing Kilimanjaro & Raising £30,000/€44,000
Trek Kilimanjaro 2008 is generously sponsored by the Thomas Read Group
In early September 2008 a team of 10 people will take on the challenge of reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain which measures over 19,000ft in height. Even with a full year to prepare themselves physically this is not the only test to face the group. The other challenge they’ve set themselves is to raise an amazing £50,000/€70,000 over and beyond the cost of their trek for Oxfam, to be raised through an assortment of exciting fundraising activities that you too will be able to take part in.
The team, made up of men and women from up and down the country (some Oxfam Ireland staff included) have been inspired to attempt the gruelling trek saying that it’s not often an opportunity comes along in which you can really challenge yourself and achieve two goals at the same time, climbing the tallest free standing mountain in the world and raise lots of money for Oxfam Ireland that will help some of the poorest people in the world secure a future.
Keep your eye on these pages for updates on how the training’s going, see photos and most importantly the range of impressive fundraising events taking place throughout the year.

Oxfam Gig, Empire Music Hall:
Oxfam Ireland wish to say a big thank you to all those who took part in our Trek Kilimanjaro fundraiser. We rose over £700 and we couldn’t have done it without the help of the acts who played. DJ Paul Geraghty began the night; this was followed by sets from Tree, Team Fresh and The Jahm Band. The Empire Music Hall provided a great venue and we would like to thank the management especially Stevie, Susan and Dee for their co- operation and donations.
