I HAVE NOTHING
BECAUSE OF GUNS"
Jale from Northern Uganda gives a first hand account of how guns have destroyed his life.
"At midnight, about 50 armed Karamajong (tribespeople) came to avenge the deaths of two of their fighters. Fifty-eight people died that night, almost all of them women and children. All my family were killed in the attack, my wives and all my children. They were 15, 13, 8, 5 and 3 years old. The youngest was only six months. Before the attack I had everything, now I have nothing. Before the Karamajong had so many guns, there was no problem between us. They would come in the dry season with their animals and leave again when the rains came. They would exchange their livestock for our food. When they acquired guns that changed everything". - Jale
ON A BUILDING
NEAR YOU...
To highlight the Control Arms campaign Amnesty and Oxfam Ireland have been projecting some of the Irish faces around Dublin. Giant images have appeared on Central Bank, the Dáil, in Capel Street and as well as the dark recesses of Temple Bar. If you added your face to the campaign you may spy yourself one of these nights. Keep your eyes open. See more about the projections on the back page of this Campaigner.
