STAND UP AGAINST
POVERTY WITH US
In 2005 millions of people took action to
Make Poverty History. In 2006 we continue
this fight with the Global Call to Action
Against Poverty.
On October 15 and 16, there will be a
global attempt to set an official Guinness
World Record for the biggest number of
people ever to 'stand up' against poverty.
You can Stand Up Against Poverty at any
time, but the exciting thing is that you can
organise an event in your workplace, school
or in your community. It is not the physical
act of ''standing up' that matters, but the act
of solidarity with people living in poverty in
the developing world.
The Stand Up Against Poverty event in
Belfast takes place in the Botanic Gardens
on October Sunday 15, at 3pm. For more
information contact the Belfast office: john.sharp [at] oxfamireland.org
OXFAM CAMPUS
Oxfam Ireland is delighted to announce the opening of Oxfam Campus at Queen's University in Belfast. This shop has opened in the recently refurbished Students Union, opposite the main university building. We are certain the shop will be a great place for students to sign up as campaigners. Don't forget to buy some funky second threads if you are around about. If you have any ideas on how we can best use this shop for campaign messages then do let us know.
GET DOWN AND DO
THE OXJAM
Spanning the month of October, Oxjam is a unique music experience that aims to stage as many music events as possible to raise money for Oxfam Ireland. We're asking musicians, promoters - in fact, everyone across Ireland and the UK - to put on all kinds of music events during October to raise money for Oxfam. There's no limit on how big or small the events are - classical, club night, mambo and metal, it'll add up to one huge, Ireland and UK-wide, Oxjam festival - raising thousands to fight poverty and highlight Oxfam campaigns like Make Trade Fair. Visit www.oxfamireland.org/oxjam for your starter pack.
