Haiti Lives Photography Exhibition

Haiti Lives Photography ExhibitionHaiti Lives is a photographic exhibition inspired by the strength and resilience of the Haitian people.

The exhibition was on display in the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin and in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.

The photographs captured the daily lives of the Haitian people living in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. An estimated 230,000 people were killed and more than one million others were left homeless with much of the capital, Port-au-Prince, in ruins.

These remarkable images depict how Oxfam’s work in Haiti is helping people to rebuild their lives.

Oxfam in Haiti

Oxfam Ireland received tremendous support from the Irish public who rallied together to give much needed financial assistance to the Haitian people in this desperate time of need.

With your help, Oxfam has now reached more than 500,000 earthquake survivors, assisting with clean water, sanitation, supporting small businesses, rebuilding communities and carrying out advocacy work with communities and partners on governance and protection issues.

Oxfam has been working in Haiti for over 30 years and has a staff of 200 in the country, including a highly trained emergency response team. Oxfam has raised enough money worldwide to support its planned five-year programme in Haiti, with a focus on long-term recovery.

How you can help

Every year, as a result of conflicts and natural disasters, more than 35 million people are forced from their homes. But in the devastation of emergencies, there is always hope. With your help, Oxfam can:

  • Provide immediate emergency aid.
  • Provide food, blankets and soap in temporary camps
  • Set up clean water supplies to prevent the outbreak of deadly diseases.

Just €5/week will pay for water-purifying tablets for 30 families.
