Oxfam Ireland’s Bangor shop gets a marvellous makeover

26 June 2009

OxfambridalOxfam Ireland's shop in Bangor is being given the makeover treatment! The town centre store, located at 32-36 Main Street, Bangor, has received an extensive refurbishment and reopens on Tuesday June 30 th at 10.30am. Oxfam Ireland 's Chairperson Tony McMullan will cut the ribbon and all are welcome, so come along to bag a bargain, have a cup of tea or coffee and meet the volunteer team.

Originally opened on its current site on Main Street in 1990, the shop's front has received a tantastic facelift while the interior has also been redecorated and upgraded, with fresh signage, new fittings, flooring and lighting. The Oxfambridal department of the shop is now located on the shop's ground floor in its own dedicated room where the team are waiting to take appointments and help find the special dress for your special day. 95% of the dresses in stock are brand new and have been donated by bridal retailers from all over Ireland .

The shop team has provided the dresses for a fashion show at Castle Espie. The event is part of the Green Living Bridal Fair and takes place between 10am and 6pm this Sunday (28 th ).

Oxfam BangorGay Jamieson, Manager of Oxfam Ireland 's Bangor shop, said: “This upgrade has ensured a more attractive shopping environment for our many local customers and the many tourists who visit Bangor during the summer months. Oxfam is at the hub of the community in Bangor and the improvements will benefit people here in North Down. But more significantly, the refit will ultimately benefit the people who need it most, as it will help us raise more funds for our vital work overseas, such as those currently displaced by the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“I'm sure we will be able to count on the continued support of the people of Bangor to help in the fight against poverty and injustice in the developing world”, Gay added.

If you would like to play a part, you could donate your unwanted gear to Oxfam Ireland . As well as the Oxfambridal department, the shop in Bangor stocks donated goods such as clothing, fashion accessories, household goods, books and musi c. For example, when you ClearURGear for Oxfam, 5 paperbacks equals schoolbooks for one Tanzanian child for an entire year; or 1 vase equals 3 life-saving buckets, specially designed to keep water safe and clean.

Alternatively, you could also volunteer to help out in the Oxfam Ireland shop. No previous experience is required as full training will be given. For further details contact Gay on 028 9145 8726.

The Bangor shop is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
