Give your wedding dress a new lease of life with Oxfambridal
June 2008
Once your big day is over, what's the final thing on your wedding checklist that you need to do - return the hired suits to the menswear shop, or write thank you cards for the presents? Or what about donating your bridal dress to Oxfam Ireland, who can then make best use of it?
It can be hard enough for a bride to find the dress of her dreams without then asking her to part with it soon afterwards, but that's exactly what Oxfam Ireland needs brides to do...for the best of reasons, of course. Rather than letting gowns gather dust at the back of a cupboard, modern brides can give their dresses a new lease of life once the big day is over by donating them to Oxfam. This enables Oxfam Ireland to then sell these donated gowns to generate vital funds: a new life for your dress can provide a better life for those suffering poverty and injustice in the developing world.
Solene Rapinel, Manager of Oxfam's shop in Georges Street , Dublin , said: " The bridal shop is working very well but we urgently need more stock. In the past we received donations of wedding dresses from designers as well as retailers giving us their samples, so many of the wedding dresses are brand new. We have many brides-to-be who visit us regularly, as they would really like to buy a dress from Oxfam Ireland , so it is important for us to feature fresh stock every month."
And it's not just gowns that Oxfambridal needs. "We would also like to receive wedding shoes, veils, bridesmaid dresses and outfits for the mother-of-the bride," says Gay Jamieson, Manager of Oxfam's bridal shop in Northern Ireland at Main Street, Bangor, Co Down.
