Oxfam Ireland 's tenth anniversary year is off to a fantastic start with today's (February 7 th ) opening of the new dedicated Oxfambooks store in Belfast 's city centre.

Oxfam Ireland 's Chief Executive, Dr Brian Scott, who performed the opening ceremony, commented on how the wider public would connect with the Rosemary Street store: “With the opening of Oxfambooks in Rosemary Street , Oxfam Ireland is, appropriately, writing a new chapter in its history. You can be part of the story… by simply buying your books with Oxfam Ireland 's newest shop right in the heart of Belfast! You can also help us to fight poverty worldwide by donating your books once you have finished reading them or by volunteering – simply ask in-store for details.”

The opening of the new Oxfambooks sees Rosemary Street, just off Royal Avenue in central Belfast, become something of a Oxfam Ireland enclave as the dedicated Oxfam Ireland Fair Trade shop is just two doors down!

Bibliophiles of all ages and tastes will be in literary heaven with the news of the shop's opening. If your idea of a charity bookshop means wall-to-wall romantic fiction, think again. Or perhaps more appropriately, read on!

Oxfam Ireland 's District Retail Manager Nyree Tubritt says: “Of course, there will be plenty of the ever-popular Mills and Boon novels, but there is also an extensive range of modern best sellers, contemporary fiction, classics, horror, thrillers, a children's section, biographies and reference books … and more. Indeed, Oxfambooks will have every genre you might expect from the multiple retailers, except with the added bonus of being a more ethical alternative.”

It's not only local book lovers who will be delighted, as this new chapter in Oxfam Ireland 's history is also good news for film buffs and music lovers, as the store will also be stocking DVDs, videos and featuring a music section of CDs and vinyl.

Contribute to the work of Oxfam Ireland by visiting the Oxfambooks in Rosemary Street, either with a donation of good quality books, DVDs or music or by making a purchase. Why not have an early spring clean and donate goods to Oxfam Ireland – any books in good condition will help us to help others.
