All's Fair at Oxfam Ireland's Fair Trade Cork Shop this Christmas
November 2007: Oxfam Ireland appoints new Manager
Oxfam Ireland is delighted to welcome Esther Perazzolo as the new Shop Manager at Oxfam Ireland 's Cork Fair Trade shop. Oxfam Ireland 's Cork Fair Trade shop is one of four dedicated Oxfam Fair Trade shops around Ireland , including Galway, Dublin and Belfast .
Esther Perazzolo is 23 years old and grew up in Belgium . Esther studied Foreign Trade at university where she discovered that conventional trade can be unfair to poor communities in developing countries. Esther was passionately opposed to the exploitation and disregard for human rights that be be found in contemporary world trade. For Esther Fair Trade was the only solution.
During Esther's last year at university she was awarded a Leonardo Programme grant to investigate Fair Trade. She moved to the Castilla y León region of Spain for six months where she worked in a Fair Trade shop named Equitanea. Esther worked to establish links between her shop and NGOs fighting to Make Trade Fair.
After university Esther gained a place on the European work-study programme Fit For Europe. As part of the programme she had to do work experience in Ireland and decided to become a full-time volunteer for Oxfam Ireland 's Cork Fair Trade shop. When the manager left she seized the opportunity to become more involved in Oxfam Ireland and its ambition to Make Trade Fair.
