Wicklow Recycling Centre
Wicklow County Council and Oxfam Ireland have worked together since the Murrough recycling Centre opened in 2003. In 2005 they began a new project which gives a major boost to reuse opportunities in the county while at the same time raising money for overseas aid and self-help projects.
In what is believed to be the first such link between a local authority and a charity in Ireland, Wicklow County Council provides space for a community shop at the Murrough where clothes and other household goods can be donated. These are then sold to people in the Wicklow Community by Oxfam Ireland.
The shop stocks a range of goods from secondhand books to clothes and children's games and is staffed by volunteers. The shop is open for selling and receiving goods from Monday to Saturday from 9am - 1pm.
Oxfam Ireland has worked in partnership with local authority councils in the north and south of Ireland in recent years on a variety of innovative projects to ensure that good quality items are kept out of landfil and on the shelves of Oxfam shops countrywide. We are always looking for volunteers for this project, for more information you can contact the Murrough Environmental Centre at 0404-64120, or the Oxfam Shop at the Murrough Recycling Centre, The Murrough, Wicklow Town.
