Belfast: Ox-van is coming to town!

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Oxfamhome in Belfast is now offering residents of Greater Belfast, North Down and Lisburn the opportunity to avail of a special collection service to declutter their homes of unwanted furniture.

The furniture collection scheme, which is part of Oxfam Ireland’s ClearURGear initiative, will see the Oxfamhome van visit areas in Greater Belfast, North Down and Lisburn from early March. So if you have good quality furniture that you are no longer using and wish to donate to a good cause, call 028 9032 5546 to arrange for it for it to be collected from your address and delivered to the Oxfamhome shop on Belfast’s Dublin Road.

Chris Murray, Oxfamhome Shop Manager, explains: “It’s time for a healthy spring clean of your house. In these credit crunch-hit times, they say that it’s best not to move home, but to improve your home. And what better way to improve than to declutter? As well as clearing a space in your house, you will be helping us to raise vital funds to fight poverty in the developing world.”

For example, if the sale of your unwanted kitchen table and chairs raises even just £45, that is enough to provide school dinners for 750 children in an Oxfam programme supporting AIDS orphans, while £25 from the sale of an unused bookcase or bedside cabinet could pay for a goat to give a family in Northern Uganda milk to drink, fertiliser for their crops and kids to add to their herd.

“You will also be helping those local people who may be finding it difficult to make ends meet by providing more of the good quality affordable furniture which is for sale in Oxfamhome”, added Mr Murray. “So if you don’t need it, clear it!”
