Oxfam Ireland Press Release
18 July 2008
Play it. Sing it. Dance it. Spin it. Music is your voice.use it.
Calling all music lovers! It's time for you to start planning for Oxjam, Oxfam's inspiring and unique DIY music festival with a difference - for the whole month of October it's all about making music, raising money and helping to end poverty.
Oxfam Ireland is looking for bands, DJs, promoters, street buskers, choirs, music teachers and just plain old music fans to organise all kinds of music events during October and donate the proceeds to Oxfam. Everyone can play a part, so whatever you're into - from classical to club nights, folk to funk - get involved now.
There's no limit to how big or small the events can be - whether you plan to hire a band, arrange a choir or orchestral concert in your school, organise a music evening in your local pub or hold a karaoke night in your back garden, it'll add up to one huge, Ireland-wide Oxjam festival.
For all the advice you need to get your music event up and running, why not contact oxjam [at] oxfamireland.org , lo-call 1890 60 60 65 (ROI) or 0845 30 30 337 (NI) or check out www.oxfamireland.org/oxjam to download your toolkit.
To give you an early example of what you can look forward to in October, Oxfam Ireland is delighted to announce that PreNup (the Dublin rock trio made up of singer/guitarist Fiachna Ó Braonáin and drummer Dave Clarke from the Hothouse Flowers and ex-Pogues bassist Cáit O'Riordan) will headline an Oxjam gig in the Sugar club in Dublin on July 17th . When asked why they became involved with Oxjam, the band said: "We are delighted and privileged to be involved with Oxjam, to raise awareness and help wipe out the crippling poverty which so many people suffer from so unnecessarily in a world so potentially rich. Let's restore some balance."
Prenup will be joined by four piece indie group, the Red Labels, pop rock trio Mugger Dave, contemporary quintet Junah, and The Jist, the world's first "air band'', who will be entertaining the audience at band turnarounds.
