Oxfam Ireland reveals the life-changing power of music

 Oxfam Ireland Press Release
1st April 2008

Those of us in love with music know its power to move people, to inspire us, to express our hopes and dreams. In short, music has the power to be life affirming. Nowhere is this more strikingly demonstrated than in Oxfam Ireland's latest ClearURMusic campaign, which is running throughout April, and which shows how music can literally save lives.

Peter Tomlinson , Oxfam Ireland 's Business Development Manager, explains: “It's time for a healthy spring clean of your music. As well as clearing a space in your home, it's also healthy because by donating your unwanted musicfor sale in any of Oxfam Ireland's 46 shops, you will be helping us to raise vital funds to fight poverty in the developing world.

“For example, if the sale of 3 of your old CDs raises just £6/€9, that is enough to provide life-saving, disease-preventing buckets, specially designed by Oxfam for families to keep water clean in the worst of emergencies, while £19/€28 will ensure a child orphaned by AIDS receives nutritious food for a month.

“So get sorting through your music collection and bring us the good condition records, tapes and CDs you either no longer listen to or have already digitally upgraded to MP3”, added Mr Tomlinson.

Meanwhile, Oxfam Ireland will soon be announcing the winner of the Sleeveface™ poster competition to promote April as ClearURMusic Month; besides seeing their hilarious handiwork turned into display posters for the shops, the winner also collects a copy of the award-winning Cake Sale CD and a Fairtrade chocolate sampler pack. Visit www.oxfamireland.org/sleeveface to see some of the brilliantly inventive Sleeveface™ entries.
