Fair Trade: the facts.

Sales in Oxfam Ireland Fair Trade shops topped €1 million/£700,000 -representing growth of over 50% in the last five years
Oxfam Ireland is the only member of The International Fair Trade Association on the island of Ireland. Members of IFAT are subject to a three prong monitoring system which ensures their transparency and commitment to the principles of Fair Trade
The first Fair Trade shops opened in Europe in 1969 and there are now nearly 3000 independent Fair Trade shops across the continent. There are even Fair Trade shops in developing countries (India, Ecuador and the Phillippines) aimed at the tourist market.
Nearly one million artisans and farmers from over 30 of the world's poorest countries are involved in supplying Fair Trade products
In a recent survey conducted for Fairtrade Mark Ireland over 30% of Irish consumers said they have purchased a Fairtrade-marked product.
