PRESS RELEASE

OXFAM IRELAND GOOD GOODS NOT SO GOOD CAMPAIGN

Oxfam Ireland is launching its Good Goods campaign on 22 March on the RTE Afternoon Show & 16 March at the Oxfam Shop Ormeau Road Belfast With UTV Live's Pamela Ballentine, Tina Campbell and team. This campaign aims to reduce the level of unsaleable donations ("Not so Goods") that Oxfam shops currently receive which will result in more money being raised for Oxfam's work with desperately poor communities around the world

"When the level of goods donated increases, inevitably the level of unsaleable goods also increases, which causes us major problems and costs us money which we urgently need to alleviate poverty overseas.

"Not so goods take up valuable space, give our volunteers extra work, create Health & Safety hazards and cost Oxfam Ireland up to €50,000 in waste disposal charges" said Trevor Anderson, Oxfam Ireland's Retail Manager.

"The response of the Irish public to the Tsunami disaster shows that people care more than ever about the fate of people in poorer countries. Following this campaign we firmly believe that these same people will understand the importance of donating good quality clothing, home wares, books, music and other items that we can sell, helping us make a real difference to poor people's lives" added Anderson.

"Good Goods" posters will be going up in Oxfam shop windows around the country and leaflets listing the type of goods that Oxfam needs most will be available in store.

Oxfam Ireland is a development, relief and campaigning organisation dedicated to finding lasting solutions to poverty and suffering in some of the poorest countries in the world.
