Recent years have seen an amazing revival in the arts of upcycling and crafting, thanks in large part to the internet.  People can swap ideas and inspiration online, and there are a huge number of how-to sites that will talk you through craft projects of varying levels of complexity.  Also, the rise of cheap mass-produced furniture has led to a new appreciation of unique and vintage pieces, and an understanding of the importance of recycling.

Oxfamhome’s two furniture shops in Belfast and Dublin are the perfect places to find those quirky pieces for your craft project.  If you fancy taking on an ambitious project, you could tackle re-upholstering this €95 couch from Oxfamhome in Dublin, for example.

However, you don’t have to be an expert or have dozens of hours to spare. You can do something as simple as taking a kitsch picture and turning it into a blackboard – a project that will only take half an hour and a few quid.
