Oxfamhome Belfast
Recent years have seen an amazing revival in the arts of upcycling and crafting, thanks in large part to the internet. People can swap ideas and inspiration online, and there are a huge number of how-to sites that will talk you through craft projects of varying levels of complexity. Also, the rise of cheap mass-produced furniture has led to a new appreciation of unique and vintage pieces, and an understanding of the importance of recycling.
Oxfamhome’s two furniture shops in Belfast and Dublin are the perfect places to find those quirky pieces for your craft project. If you fancy taking on an ambitious project, you could tackle re-upholstering this €95 couch from Oxfamhome in Dublin, for example.

The weekly newsletter LeCool, which finds cutting-edge events in various major cities, has nominated Oxfam’s Haiti Lives exhibition as one of this week’s picks.  The exhibition closes tomorrow, so be sure to get down to the Powerscourt Townhouse in Dublin to see it before it goes. You’ll also be able to see and bid on the Oxfamhome DIY furniture (also recommended by LeCool) which is on display in the exhibition space.
Bids on the unique designer-customised furniture will be accepted until mid August.

Oxfamhome ‘DIY’ is a design initiative whereby a select panel of journalists, interior designers, artists and bloggers have been invited to choose a piece of Oxfamhome furniture and add their own inimitable style and imagination.
The result is a set of unique and spectacular pieces of statement furniture which will be auctioned, with all proceeds going towards Oxfam Ireland’s programme work. The pieces include a writing desk, an armchair, a filing cabinet, tables and a bedside locker; and reserve prices range from as little as €100 to €500. It’s a great opportunity to snap up a unique bargain.
Find out more about the pieces and the designers, and bid on your favourite piece here »
