World Environment Day Tanzania
June 23rd, 2010 ·
Category: Campaigns · Climate Change
Earlier this month, Oxfam in Tanzania celebrated World Environment Day.
The occasion was used to launch a new book, Unheard Voices, which shares the reality of climate change and the impact it has on the lives of the people of Tanzania. Available in English and Kiswahili, the book launch was accompanied by signing, dancing, poetry and art displays.
Speaking on the day, Oxfam’s Marc Wegerif, told the crowd that:
climate change is the biggest threat to our environment and our way of life, especially for the poorest farmers and pastoralists who are directly dependant on natural resources for their livelihoods.
He went on to urge all those present to:
call for a fair, ambitious and binding global deal on climate change, for strong action from the Tanzanian government to protect the most vulnerable and for all of us to take responsibility for our own impact on climate change as well as joining the call for action from our leaders.
