As climate witnesses gather in Brussels for a special EU climate hearing, we now know that 20 million people around the world have already been displaced by climate change.
According to a new UN report, floods, storms, drought and other climate-related natural disasters drove 20 million people from their homes last year. This is the first time a study has quantified the number of people forced to flee their homes because of climate change.
A recent Oxfam report predicts that this number is set to rise to over 200 million in the coming years unless we take urgent action – a fair and safe deal in Copenhagen is the best place to start.
