A new report from the International Food Policy Research Institute analyses the vulnerability of South African farmers to climate change.
Mapping South African farming sector vulnerability to climate change and variability shows that regions most exposed to climate change do not necessarily have populations that are most vulnerable to the effects of such climate change. A lot also naturally depends on social vulnerability.
The report calls on adaptation measures to be integrated into development strategies, and for considerable investment to be made in social programmes, rural infrastructure and early warning systems.
It is a short report and well worth a read.
